who is liz?

I studied abroad in Spain during college and knew I had to come back. So cliché, but true.

I moved to Bilbao, Spain, in 2010 to be an English Language Assistant in a secondary school. I job I thought I would just tolerate I ended up loving, and I have come to appreciate the Basque Country for what it is (and what it's not).

I'm hoping that people who read my blog can gain a little more perspective about a corner of Spain that's not as well-known.

I love reading, jamón serrano, and Athletic Bilbao.

No, I don't speak Basque.

  2. Hi Liz,
We are traveling to Bilbao in June for a conference (from New Mexico). We want to spend a few days traveling up to the beach before settling for three day sin Bilbao. We fly into Bilbao at 8:15 on a monday night. Could we travel that night to a beach town and spend a couple days? What type of transportation, and do you have any advice about a hotel to stay on the beach? (I am not sure which beach, but would be happy with any>>>>)
    Thanks so much,
    Kathy Isaacson

    1. Hi Kathy,

You have a few options. Take the bus from the airport to the city center. From there, you can take the metro out to a few beaches. One of my favorites is Sopelana, and there's a nice hotel within walking distance, although I don't know the name. Another option would be Getxo. There is a hotel with the chain "Hi-Tech Hotels" that is literally on the beach in Getxo. Otherwise, try booking.com, I always find the best results with them! Good luck, and feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. My email is lizenespana@gmail.com

  3. Happy to have found your blog! I've been in pamplona for a few years on and off (the bf is from here) but have decided pamplona is just a wee bit too small for me and I am headed to Barcelona to see what might be in store there. Bilbao is a great city! How long have you been there now? How long do you plan to stay in Spain..er..the Basque Country :) (or Spain for that matter)
I look forward to reading more and following your blog!
    Cheers,
    Ella

ps. Where are you from? I'm from Canada - Vancouver.
